Notes on Clarity, Intuition, Inner Truth
A breakdown of my favorite tarot cards for strengthening your relationship to yourSelf and accompanying spreads.
I think most people see tarot as an intuitive gift. Something that only a few special people have the ability to do. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone has the ability to read tarot cards. All you need is a willingness to study and a connection to your intuition.
The cards below are my favorite for learning to trust your intuition as well as build a stronger sense of self. Read through them, try out the spreads and let me know what you think!
The Cards
High Priestess- An invitation to intuition
Judgment- Inner Truth
2 of Swords- Sharpening inner truth & Intuition, Clarity
High Priestess
The High Priestess is a card we all know well. She is the guardian between the worlds & the icon of intuition. She is the blue lotus tea that blurs the lines between realities, the one that grants you entrance to the other side. The dream that leaves you with revelations not found in the waking world. A veil that lifts to show you the stars.
She has collected the tools to help clear the fog over her eyes. Her crown is the crown of Hathor, the Egyptian Goddess who helps souls in the afterlife. The moon at her feet is her ability to tap into her own inner emotions, but not them to rule over her. The pomegranate, rumored to be THE forbidden fruit, is hidden knowledge and abundance. It is also the same fruit that Persephone consumes, the fruit that grants her the ability to flirt with both realms. The TORA, the Divine Law of which she is more than familiar. All of these items and options are tools readily available for her inner divination.
A surprise that often accompanies the High Priestess is that she is not a sign to seek information or empowerment elsewhere, but within yourself. She is seated, still and meditative. The High Priestess invites you to do the same. To prepare yourself mentally and dive within to seek the truth that lies within. To see the secrets of your heart laid bare. To seek that which evades your waking, racing mind revealed only with closed eyes and tranquil heart.
I often find that the more often I sit with the High Priestess the less often I see her. To see her is a reminder of what must be done. But once you’ve built your bridge with her, you find that its planks grow smaller in number and the river dividing you dwindles to a puddle in which you gleefully dance. Her presence has become your presence and to desire her is to desire yourself.
Questions to ask The High Priestess:
How does my intuition show itself?
How can I strengthen my intuition?
Why/ When do I dismiss my intuition?
What secrets lie within my heart?
Judgment
Judgment, with its coffins and angels, is often a card that sends tingles up the spine. There is a finality that lingers within judgment that leaves us daunted by their presence. They remind us that there is a decision that must be made and it will not be postponed despite your delicate appetite
The reality is that this harsh appearance belies a tender heart and caring call. Judgment is the firm parent who makes you decide which outfit to wear on picture day. Refusing to pick the outfit lest you bemoan it later, stating they picked something unflattering that didn’t represent you. The lesson being to choose for yourself what you are and how you will represent yourself. Judgment demands that you learn to choose and stand firmly with a straight back and strong gaze. Chin up and tits out my friend.
Judgment is THE call. It is YOUR call. It is the appeal and the demand that you choose where and when you will go. It appears when you dally, when you delay and bemoan, all the while cursing the gods who put you in the forsaken position. It will ring until you answer, the irritating pitch of the phone driving you to do what must be done.
While it cannot make the decision for you, Judgment will hound you until you do. It will not hold your hand, but rather glare at you from across the room. It’s dour demeanor discouraging anything less than true authenticity. Much like Anubis, Judgment sees into your heart and weighs it on a scale. But the weight of your heart is not a sin and the countermeasure is truth rather than virtue. Only when you pick the path that your heart truly desires is when Judgment will finally leave you be. That is the love that Judgement brings and shares with you.
But Judgement is also peace; for it is the peace of mind that forms only when you are past the chaos of deliberation. It’s the angels leading you to the promised land of your freshly unearthed desires. Judgment is both the demand that you heed your inner truth and the release of the burden once the decision is made.
Questions for Judgement:
What truth am I avoiding?
What path have I subconsciously chosen?
Where is my true path?
Why have I avoided this path?
Two Of Swords
The Two of Swords is cocky. She sits on a cliffs ledge, blindfolded and asking for a fight. But if you look behind her, you’ll notice the water is calm. Her subconscious is calm and relaxed. Why? Because she’s already made her decision.
The Two of Swords always feels like a false play. She asks you to think, but she’s already decided to rely on her intuition and gut. She’s discarded her senses, both figuratively and metaphorically, and trusts that she can navigate the situation without them. She’s not stuck between a rock and a hard place and neither are you.
Two of Swords appears when you’re overthinking a situation. While learned knowledge is a fantastic thing, there are times when we rely too heavily on logic. Swords are the classic suite for knowledge and communication, but I think there is room to add claircognizance as well. AKA “clear knowing”. Moments when, without explanation, you can clearly discern the situation and move without hesitation. The Two of Swords asks you to close your eyes and see the answer clearly without letting your mind get in the way.
I know there have been many situations where I instinctively knew how a situation was going to turn out, despite never having encountered it before. While i’ve often tried to ignore my feeling and go with the “logical” option, it never quite works out the way I would like it to. The 2 of Swords asks you to stop fighting so hard to prove your point and just do it. Trust your own inner clarity and watch things fall into place. The only way you can strengthen your relationship with your gifts is to rely on them more often.
Questions for the Two of Swords:
What do I know?
Why do I ignore my knowledge?
