You don’t know who you are, not really. You have an idea of who you are. A whisper in the back of your mind like the whisp of hair that tickles the nape of your neck. A word that lingers on the tip of your tongue, but you just can’t quite get it out.
You. Don’t. Know. Who. You. Are
Why is that?
Safety. Security. Ease. A need to belong.
These human and important concepts have made you nip and tuck yourself into the dark corners of your mind. You’ve snipped and snipped away at yourself until you become more manageable, more palatable, more normal. All the things you needed to be to get through life with more ease until you were strong enough to become who you wanted to be.
You wanna know a secret?
You’re already strong enough. You’ve been strong enough. The same muscles that you use to hide your true Self are the same muscles you need to shake off the stiff costume you’ve been wearing for so long. Your back and shoulders ache from the weight of pretending and at this point it’s either take off the costume, or start paying a shit ton for a good chiropractor. (To be fair, I love a good chiro)
So do it. I dare you. Realistically what’s the worst that could happen?
1. You lose friends?
They never understood you babes. You’ll get new friends who are attracted to who you are now.
2. You realize you hate your job and want to change careers?
The plot twist is you’ve always subconsciously hated it and now you understand why you were so unmotivated.
3. You need to change your new wardrobe?
Proper Self expression through clothes is insanely important. Clothes reflect who you are as a person. You’ll save money from no longer following fads and you’ll have a more accurate presence.
Not to lean into toxic positivity, but I can promise you that being a more authentic version of yourself will lead to a better life. I’m not saying it will be without it’s struggles, no life is, but I’m saying that there is no better way to live your life than to be you.
So lets start by discovering your true Self!
The following journal questions are similar to my self discovery journal Altar Ego. If you enjoy them, consider buying your own copy or signing up for the Dream Self Pathway.
Altar Ego takes the concept of the Highest Self, or the Divine Self and takes it to it’s natural peak. If your Divine Self is divine, do they not deserve worship? What better worship could there be than discovering who you truly are and then making your life better? Together, we’ll walk through every part of your life to help you slowly become your Divine Self.
What are three things you enjoyed as a child that you were discouraged from or had to stop doing? Why did you enjoy them?
How can you start these habits and hobbies again as an adult? Can you sign up for a class or go buy supplies? Can you start doing it at home or at a place where you feel safe?
Homework: Try to do one of these things at least once a month. If it’s something small, maybe try achieving it once a week. Slowly increase the frequency until you no longer feel uncomfortable doing it or can even tell others about it.
What are three pillars you stand upon? What are ideals or core values that you will never stray from? For example: Being courageous in moments of fear. The pursuit of pleasure is the purpose of life.
Please explain why these values are so important.
How can you act upon these values more often?
What three colors represent you? Note, this is not “what colors do you like to wear” but what colors call to your soul?
Why these three colors? What do they mean to you?
How can you integrate them into your life more? Can you enact on their meanings more often? Can you decorate your home with them? How can you embody these colors more in your day to day life?
These are the kind of questions you need to ask yourself. We spend so much of our day to day lives just skirting about on the surface level because we’re often too scared to find out what lies within our subconscious. But why would we fear our Divine Selves? Our Divine Self would never judge us for doing what it takes to survive. They would never be disappointed in how long it took us to meet them. Your Divine Self understands the courage it takes to meet and become them and will always welcome you.
So leap!
